In response to Vee’s recent blog post, So Much Snow, I ended up writing a parody of the song, “I Was a Fool” by Tegan and Sara. I encourage you to grab a hot beverage and stay awhile ☕💕 If you enjoyed this parody, feel free to check out my other poetry musings here. Also, I highly encourage you to check out Vee’s blog #MILLENIALLIFECRISIS if you haven’t already done so. Her blog is as real as it gets! Thanks for reading! ✨
[Verse 1]
Do you remember you searched me out?
How you climbed my city’s walls?
Do you remember it’s October?
Winter now echoes my calls
[Pre-Hook]
Now I’m chilled to the bone
Froze to death is all I did
[Hook]
You stuck around
You didn’t leave
You’d taunt me every time
I was a fool for snow
I was a fool for snow
I was a fool
I was a fool
[Verse 2]
You keep showing up in my world
When will you leave me alone?
Then you decide to linger near me
You refuse to go away
[Pre-Hook]
Now (now) I’m (I’m) chilled to the bone
(chilled to the bone)
Froze (froze) to (to) death is all I did
(is all I did)
[Hook]
You still stuck around
You didn’t leave
You’d taunt me every time
I was a fool for snow
I was a fool for snow
I was a fool (I was a fool for snow)
I was a fool (I was a fool for snow)
I was a fool (I was a fool for snow)
[Bridge]
I never liked you so please go away
It’s too early for these winter days
You best be looking for another place
Without me in that space, within that space
[Pre-Hook]
Now (now) I’m (I’m) chilled to the bone
(chilled to the bone)
Froze (froze) to (to) death is all I did
(is all I did)
[Hook]
You still stuck around
You didn’t leave
You’d taunt me every time
I was a fool for snow (I was a fool)
I was a fool for snow
I was a fool (I was a fool for snow)
I was a fool (I was a fool for snow)
I was a fool (I was a fool for snow)
Haha, I love it when the bloggers I follow reference each other :). It’s great. Unfortunately for me I don’t know this particular song so the humor is lost on me. However, I have every faith that you’re a talented parody-ist.

See link to song – it will lead to the official YouTube video. I didn’t grow up on their music but I’ve heard this song a handful of times on the radio. It’s catchy in the sense that I remembered the song several years later.

Thank you so much, Buddy71! That means a lot especially since I didn’t grow up with Tegan and Sara’s music. I first heard this song on the radio and it stuck in my head ever since. 😂

Well I didn’t “grow up” with their music either

I didn’t grow up with their music either and I’m not sure how I came to hear about them and I haven’t heard much from them lately. And this time I’ll hit the right button. Lol

Sometimes radio music is catchy! Their music was technically from my time (I knew of people who listened to them). Idk what I was listening to back then, honestly.

I’m actually really glad that you explained it because the reference was really lost on me when you commented. I was like… ‘I should ask, but I also don’t want to look like an idiot, so…’. I got too scared to acknowledge I didn’t get the reference.

I should have referenced it in the comments. Yes, it wasn’t very clear. Hopefully this clears up any confusion! Highly recommend listening to the original (see link) before reading the parody 🙂

I used to be a big Teagan and Sara fan. I’m not opposed to them now or anything, it’s just been a long time since I listened to a song that didn’t have screaming in it. 😂

Tbh I’ve never been a fan of Tegan and Sara but I don’t dislike their music. I just never owned their CDs or spent a significant amount of time listening for their music. I heard this particular song on the radio, many many years ago. Ah yes, my cousin went through a screamo phase where she only listened to heavy metal. My poor ears 😖

I forgot it’s already snowing in Alberta. I think we’re getting our first snow is Southern Ontario today and I can tell by how the weather has gotten. Really enjoyed your parody and it’s usually how I end up feeling after the first few weeks of winter.

My mom made a gift for baby-to-be. I wanted to text you and tell you I had something for you but I realized that I no longer have your number. I got a new phone for work several weeks back and I never actually tansferred over my numbers.
Obviously with everything going on in this city right now, I definitely don’t want excess interaction. That being said, if things do calm down in the next few months here, perhaps we can meet some time for a distant walk in the park or a distant meeting somehow so that I can give it to you.

Thank you so much, Vee! 😇 That’s so generous of you and your mom to do something nice for me. I really appreciate it and totally agree that we should probably wait until the pandemic has settled down. It’s concerning how bad it’s gotten in Calgary. 😷 I heard that they finally created a vaccine so there’s a glimmer of hope that things may be better by the spring.
My number is 226-979-8939. Are you still using your other phone numbers or should I delete them? It makes sense that I haven’t been able to reach you through your other numbers (BC number and Calgary number).

I don’t know the original song but the text in your version make smile. It calms me down while reading it.
