January Goals | Winter 2023

As the new year approaches, I have made a promise to myself to make setting monthly goals a priority and I am excited to start off with January 2023. Writing out a list of achievable goals that I can work towards has always been important for me, and this is an opportunity for me to start fresh and strive towards making real progress in achieving my aspirations.

For those of you who have been keeping up with me on Twitter (@serene_hilz), I am currently in the process of holding myself accountable for my exercise regimen. To do this, I have been using the treadmill to stay active on days where I am not occupied with work commitments. Keeping myself motivated and challenged on a daily basis by setting goals and achieving them has become an invaluable habit for me. I love to be able to take a step back at the end of each day and reflect on what I have accomplished, which is especially rewarding when I receive positive feedback from my followers that they find my posts inspiring! This is something that truly makes me proud and never ceases to give me a sense of accomplishment.

𝕀 𝕒𝕞 𝕖𝕩𝕔𝕚𝕥𝕖𝕕 𝕥𝕠 𝕤𝕖𝕖 𝕨𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕁𝕒𝕟𝕦𝕒𝕣𝕪 𝕙𝕒𝕤 𝕚𝕟 𝕤𝕥𝕠𝕣𝕖 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕞𝕖!

As I had mentioned in my previous blog post, the beginning of the New Year was unfortunately filled with a few days spent in bed due to illness. It wasn’t until January 4th that I started to feel slightly better and was able to enjoy a meal of sushi. Unfortunately, I was feeling depressed by January 5th. My depression is usually bad this time of year (aka. Blue January) due to the colder temperatures, lack of sunlight and the end of the holiday season which means there’s nothing to get excited about. I am the type of person who needs something to look forward to, so that’s where this blog comes in. If I cannot control my circumstances, then I will create my own goals and routines this year.

Yes, it’s the same template as previous years. 📆

Are you familiar with this template? If you read my March Goals blog post(s) over the years, I can tell you that it’s the same template. Why did I only post during the month of March? Who knows! This template, however, is something that I’m very proud of and I will continue to use it for this blog. Personally, I don’t like creating blog posts from scratch because they often lack organization and flow, which are things that I hold high standards for. If a blog post looks ugly, then I will often scrap it or re-write it so it’s “easy on the eyes.” You might be wondering how this month differs from previous months. Well,, let me show you:

January Goals 2023

Career Goals:

  • Do not miss any work days this month 🙅‍♀️
  • Get comfortable with working on new unit (general medicine)
  • Catch up on emails and work on MLL courses
  • Start bidding on shifts for February as they become available

Personal Goals:

  • Publish 1-2 blog posts per month
  • Publish 1-2 articles on Medium + share articles on blog
  • Keep tabs on doctor’s appointments/pending appointments
  • Monthly donation to Amref Health Africa
  • Daily Duolingo practice 🇩🇪

Health Goals:

  • Treadmill on days I am not working + upload progress on Twitter
  • Track water intake on Water Llama app
  • Track steps on Pikmin Bloom app
  • Healthy/clean eating 80% of the time
My Mii looks constipated lol

And there you have it! As you can see, I have laid everything out in a clear and concise manner and I am very direct about what I do. I’m not an expert when it comes to achieving life goals, but I believe planning and sticking to what you set out to do is key. It’s not always easy and that’s why I remind myself of my goals every day. Even though it can be tough, taking consistent action towards what you want make the biggest difference in the long run.

I am curious to know what your goals are for the month of January. Feel free to let me know in the comments section below ↓ Also, I would really appreciate it if you followed me on Twitter, that is, if you aren’t already a follower. It is so hard to grow on that platform but I really do enjoy using it to connect with like-minded bloggers.

Thanks for stopping by! ♥

I just wanted to wish you the best with your January goals. I know winter can cause a mood change in people and cause symptoms of depression to worsen. Don’t worry, stay strong. It’ll be spring before you know it.
Also are you learning German on Duo too??

Hi Pooja, thank you for taking the time to comment. Sorry the comments were turned off and I didn’t realize it until later in the day. This is not the first time I’ve done that 🤦‍♀️

Yes, the January blues is what I call it. I’m trying to get out of the house but most days I’m indoors. Been using my sun lamp a lot which helps to an extent.

Yes, I’m learning German on Duolingo. I think this is Day 31 🔥 So far I’m liking it but I have the free version which means lots of ads. My username is Hilaryha6. Ich spreche Deutsch! 🇩🇪

That’s okay, I just assumed you were busy and switched them off lol 😅

Glad the sun lamp helps a bit. January is often the toughest month to get through winter but the good news is that it gets better after January.

Oh nice, I’m learning German too! I’ll add you.

When I use templates from older blog posts, I often forget that I had turned off the comments lol I really need to stop doing that 🤦‍♀️

Thank you for adding me! I woke up to a notification this morning. I added you back! 🙂🇩🇪

Lack of sunshine can really wreck havoc on our wellbeing. I have a sun lamp but I often forget to use it. I like your suggestion to eat fruits and veggies – I started eating a lot of them since the beginning of the year and it’s helping. I don’t take vitamins but should really look into this too – thank you for commenting! Happy New Year! 😊💞

water llama! how cute! im not one for setting long term goals. im more for the short term. like what im i planning for today. lol of course the weather plays a big part on those plans. the last 2 days have been sunny and blue sky. so i have been out doing “yard” clean up from all the rain and preparing for the storms heading our way. but here is a “go girl!” for you to strive for your goals. happy new year!!!!!!

You might benefit from completing a daily checklist. For a while I was using the Power List (a list of 5 critical tasks to do each day). I tried it for a while but often get frustrated when I don’t complete all 5-things on my list 😛
It sounds like you guys have nicer weather than we do. Here it’s still below freezing and there’s snow in my yard lol Hopefully you aren’t getting too many rain storms! Mother Nature can be crazy and unpredictable sometimes.
Ah, thank you! Last week I stuck with the Goals on the list and felt like there wasn’t much time for anything else. Hopefully I can accomplish some more things this week. I just completed 3-shifts at work and I’m very behind on sleep right now. Good morning! ☀️☕️

All the best your Jan goals. I live seeing your twitter updates, live the water llama app -how cute.

I too like like to plan goals month on month, and have a rough idea for the year and the quarters.

Biggest personal Jan goal, is more meditation and reflection. Finish a course. Finish the book I am reading.

I am taking a blogging break. To do more meditation. But to focus on attempting youtube, filling paper work and to figure a content writing plan.

All the best with your Jan goals

I am delighted that you appreciate my Twitter posts – thank you!! I had been using the Water Llama App for a while, however I decided to take a break from it but now I think its time to start using it again. Additionally, it is nice to go back over my monthly goals and reflect on what I have accomplished and what still needs doing.

I’m wondering if you completed a course or a book that you were reading. Have you had any luck with either of those goals?

I actually completed two courses – I brought a few as they where so cheap. The book I was reading at the time I completed, Started another but I am taking a bit too long to read that.

How are you other goals going.

I am struggling a little. But, still moving forward slowly but steadily – but slowly. Happy Sunday and wish you a good week a head
